8th Metro Diwas marked with MD’s Medal Awards, Commuter Felicitations, and the presence of Param Vir Chakra awardee Captain Yogendra Singh Yadav as Guest of Honour

LUCKNOW : Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) today marked the completion of 8 years of Lucknow Metro operations, observed as its 8th Metro Diwas. Since commencing operations in 2017, Lucknow Metro has become a symbol of safe, fast, comfortable, and eco-friendly travel, serving millions of passengers and setting new benchmarks for sustainable urban mobility in the capital city of Uttar Pradesh.
The milestone celebrations included a series of events at the Transport Nagar Depot and Hazratganj Metro Station. Key highlights were the presence of Captain Yogendra Singh Yadav, Param Vir Chakra awardee, as Guest of Honour; the MD’s Medal Awards Ceremony recognising outstanding employees; the felicitation of the 13 croreth passenger and Top 3 GoSmart card users; and cultural performances by UPMRC staff and school students.
The celebrations commenced at the Transport Nagar Metro Depot, where Shri Sushil Kumar, Managing Director, UPMRC, welcomed Captain Yogendra Singh Yadav, Param Vir Chakra awardee and the youngest recipient of India’s highest wartime gallantry honour for his extraordinary bravery during the Kargil War in 1999. He was joined on the occasion by senior officials including Shri Sheel Kumar Mittal (Director – Finance), Shri Prashant Mishra (Director – Operations), and Shri Navin Kumar (Director – RS&S).
Captain Yadav addressed UPMRC officials and employees, commending their contribution to nation-building through modern transport system. The program also featured cultural performances by UPMRC staff and the MD’s Medal Awards Ceremony for 2024–25, which honoured employees for their exceptional performance in project, operations, and maintenance categories.
As part of the Metro Diwas 2025 celebrations, a prize distribution ceremony was organised at the Transport Nagar Depot, where Shri Sushil Kumar, Managing Director, UPMRC, felicitated employees for their outstanding contributions in various fields.

In addition, Motijheel Metro Station (Kanpur) was conferred with the Best Kept Metro Station Award for maintaining exemplary standards of cleanliness and passenger service.

Public Event at Hazratganj Metro Station :
Following the ceremony at Transport Nagar Depot, a grand public event was organized at Hazratganj Metro Station, where Captain Yogendra Singh Yadav interacted with commuters and also undertook a metro ride. Captain Yogendra Singh Yadav praised the remarkable progress of Lucknow Metro and said “It is not only serving the people with dedication but also setting new benchmarks in urban transport. These successful 8 years is a result of passion of work of the employeesof UPMRC.” The occasion witnessed the participation of commuters, school students, and UPMRC officials, reflecting the spirit of Metro Diwas.

UPMRC felicitated its 13 croreth passenger, Mrs. Anjana, who was presented with a ₹2,000 voucher by the Managing Director.
The Top 3 GoSmart card users were also recognised for their continued patronage:

2nd Place: Reeti Katiyar ₹1,500 voucher
3rd Place: Sh Gopal ₹1,000 voucher
Cultural Highlights:
Students of Adani GEMS School of Excellence, Lucknow presented a patriotic skit dedicated to the spirit of patriotism.
Another school, Lucknow Public College, A Block, Rajajipuram performed a skit on the theme “Nawab in Lucknow Metro”, showcasing how the Nawab of Lucknow discovers the modern city and finds the Metro to be the most convenient and comfortable mode of travel.
On this occasion, Shri Sushil Kumar, Managing Director, UPMRC, said:
“It is a matter of immense pride that UPMRC has been performing so well since the last 8 years in all the parameters of Key Performance Index. From achieving 95% higher non-fare revenue, 30% higher farebox revenue per passenger, and better ridership per kilometre, to setting benchmarks in signalling reliability, energy efficiency, and staff productivity — our performance is a testament to the dedication and teamwork of our employees. UPMRC has also demonstrated its efficiency by completing the construction of the North-South Corridor before time, and we intend to achieve the same for the recently approved East-West Corridor. This new corridor will connect Old Lucknow, facilitating better commute for its residents. It is for the people of Lucknow, and we remain committed to providing them with the best service through safe, reliable, and world-class metro operations.”
